Any holiday is incomplete without some soul searching; isn’t it? After all, peace lies within and not in the outside world. It’s quite ironical that we often do the opposite. Thus, in order to take a break and re-align my energies and my focus, I chose a staycation over a vacation. Instead of packing my bags & taking a long flight to an unknown destination, I chose to explore the unknown quarters of my own city, Dubai.

Today, as the world tourism is converging in Dubai and the vibrant city emerging as one of the top tourist destinations of the world, it indeed comes as a surprise that millions of people who have loved and lived in this city for so long, have not yet discovered the beauty and magnificence of this city. I must accept, I am no exception to this. Nonetheless, it only made sense that this time around I make a difference to my own understanding of a holiday and a break by choosing a staycation.

With innumerable options of Staycations available in Dubai, it was Dubai Tourism who eased my task by extending a 2-nights 3-days invite to stay at the fabulous and the hugely popular Madinat Jumeirah. Nestled within the bustling city, to me the Madinat Jumeriah is nothing short of a haven for those seeking harmony and tranquility.

Comprising of 2 boutique hotels Al Qasr and Mina A’Salaam, 29 summerhouses called Dar Al Masyaf, 2 kms of private beach front and over 40 world-renowned restaurants and bars, all connected with tranquil waterways and tropical landscape, Madinat Jumeirah is the largest resort in the UAE; almost like a city within a city.

I chose the Al Qasr for my staycation, and why not, after all Al Qasr literally translates to ‘The Palace’ and is aptly designed to look like a Sheikh’s magnificent Summerhouse. Moreover, this outer beauty was merely the beginning of the magnificence and the opulence. As a part of my welcome surprise, I was upgraded to the grand Ocean View Rooms. For once, I could sit doing nothing, just staring at the endless turquoise blue waters, soothing my soul.

Soon enough, it was time to soothe my senses, and I headed to the Talise Spa, which is a true oasis of relaxation and rejuvenation. I chose the AlphaSphere Deluxe – a holistic and unique experience which incorporates sound therapy, colour therapy, aromatherapy and massage techniques to promote deep relaxation and regenerate the body and mind. Twenty five minutes of this distinguishing therapy and I could already experience a heightened sense of perception and creativity, besides feeling absolutely stress free. With Madinat Jumeirah being the only destination in the Middle East to offer the AlphaSphere Deluxe therapy, giving the Talise Spa a miss will surely not be a wise thing to do.

It would be wiser and helpful to follow up this therapy with a massage session that calms your body down. And that’s exactly what I did. With my senses on an overdrive, it was time to gain some relief from the muscle pain in my right shoulder, arm and neck. As a result, I chose to go ahead with the Balinese Massage. How can I not mention of my masseur Widhi, whose magical hands ensured that my muscle pain miraculously vanished in that 60 minute session, which indeed felt like the shortest 60 minutes of my life as I just didn’t want Widhi to stop. But alas, all good things come to an end, and so did this absolutely invigorating massage.

Feeling completely rejuvenated and refreshed, I was now ready to awaken my taste buds and treat them to some sumptuous, yet healthy delicacies for my dinner. I must confess I often find it difficult to spot a restaurant of my choice as I prefer Gluten free, Dairy free healthy and clean food, cooked in less oil. However, the Madinat Jumeriah ensured that the hunt for my kind of fine dine is short lived.

Spoilt with the options of the choicest of fine dining brands from across the world, I opted for the most picturesque and best-known seafood Mediterranean restaurant in Dubai, Pierchic. Located at the end of the pier at Al Qasr, the restaurant offered an over-the-water dining experience with unmatched views of the the Arabian Gulf, the Dubai coastline, Palm Jumeirah and the iconic Burj Al Arab. The only other thing that could have distracted me from this dreamlike view, was of course the delicacy that I ordered for…The Grilled Whole Sea Bass.

Imagine this exquisite and healthy seafood satiating my taste palates, the cleanest air filling my lungs with joy, and the breathtakingly beautiful views of the Arabian Sea soothing my soul. Can it get any better?

Yes, it does, because the next morning I woke up to refreshing views from my Ocean View room, only to realize that we don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are. It was a new day, and I was itching to explore the paradise I was nestled in. By now I was quite convinced that Madinat Jumeirah is a perfect staycation destination for families and individuals alike. With innumerable attractions, the serene abra rides, adventure activities, and landscaped beauty all around, Madinat Jumeirah has something for every kind of personality. Since I started this staycation with the intention of ‘taking a break with a difference’, I also experimented a lot with food. Right from authentic yet contemporized Chinese delicacies with neo-oriental flair at Zheng He, to the best Thai restaurant in Dubai, Pai Thai, this staycation surely had my taste buds thanking me. Not to mention, the option of gluten free vegetarian dishes being easily available, my health was happy too.

Talking of good health, a jog along the landscaped gardens of the Madinat Jumeirah and spending a leisurely day of sun and sand at the most beautiful 2 Km stretch of private beach, ensured that I am not missing out on my fitness regime, even as my senses were soothened with the awe-inspiring views around.

I surely couldn’t have asked for more. Although nestled within the busy city of Dubai, the Madinat Jumeirah fortunately has none of the madness of the city. Instead, it almost snuggles you in its lap of beauty, serenity and tranquility. It asks you to take a break, hit the pause button, breathe in deep, let your lungs fill with joy, feel your pulse, soak your senses in the divine calmness, awaken you taste buds, let your body revive, and refresh your soul.

So take a break; take a break from the hustle bustle, take a break from the madness, take a break from the rat race, and most importantly, take a break from your own self. Refresh, rejuvenate, revive and re-discover yourself. Take a pause, because there is life in this pause.

So the next time you take a pause, choose a staycation over a vacation. Instead of hunting your next vacation destination on the World Map, may be you can just explore the by lanes of your own city, and discover something unknown, even as you rediscover your own self.
