Wellness Travel with Uma – Sri Lanka

Off late, I had been really tied up with work. And I was feeling burned out! That’s when I thought, that I need some time out to rejuvenate and de-stress! With so much on my mind, I thought why not choose a destination which is not so far away but I would still love to visit. And I chose Sri Lanka – one of my favorite destinations. I was super excited about my travel, and Air Arabia and air Arabia Holidays, my travel partner just made it quick and smart! As soon as I reached Sharjah International Airport, they pampered me with their Hala Service which is a unique range of services that made my journey simple and hassle free. I was greeted and assisted, had a fast track check-in and immigration clearance, used the smart gates, and went into duty free in hardly in a few minutes. I mean it was that quick! There I spent some time at leisure in the lounge. Also scrolled through there app, AirArabia Now you can make and manage your bookings anywhere, anytime at the tap of a finger, with their user friendly mobile app.

I was already feeling great with the pampering and then, it was even better when I entered the aircraft. Generally, we struggle with leg room in aircrafts. But Air Arabia’s planes have all-economy class cabins. Legroom allowances with a seat pitch 32 inches, it’s pretty generous leg room.The interiors were also classy and comfortable and I had a pleasant flight. After 4 hours in the flight, I reached Sri Lanka.

I’ve been to Sri Lanka three times before and this was my fourth time that I was visiting this vibrant country. Bursting with culture, flavours and new experiences – it’s hard to believe that so much is packed in such a small nation! I would rather call it the green nation! Everything about this place mesmerizes me- the greenery, the people, the food, and of course, the energy! Sri Lanka’s broad diversity makes it an island like no other. Endless beaches, timeless ruins, welcoming people, oodles of elephants, rolling surf, cheap prices, fun trains, famous tea and flavourful food make Sri Lanka the perfect destination to unwind.

We were picked at Colombo airport by jetwing transport service. Joseph, the driver who was to accompany us was a really helpful guy/man who took good care of us. We stopped at Jetwing 7 hotel in Colombo to freshen up a bit and then, we set off for our journey to Anantara Peace Haven Tangelle. The road trip to Anantara was a visual delight, spreads of green lands, different shades, and breathtaking views. In the middle of this beautiful journey, we also had to halt as our tyre got punctured but that eventually turned out to be fun! The scenery all around was so beautiful that it kept us occupied while the tyre was being replaced. After a three hour journey, we reached Anantara Peace Haven Tangelle which is a holistic getaway located at the southerneast tip of Sri Lanka.

A secluded spa retreat on a coconut plantation overlooking the Indian Ocean, the place was like heaven on earth. As soon as I reached, I was welcomed at the gate with a performance by local musicians! It was really amusing the way they sang, and welcomed us with such love! As I entered, I noticed that the 152 room resort was surrounded by breathtaking cliffs which made their way to sandy beaches, and spectacular views. I had found my perfect place to escape the stressful routine on a golden coastline of coconut palms. I was totally excited to unwind and re-centre at my own pace at this perfect rejuvenation retreat. I had specifically chosen this place to check out their wellness options, of course to de-stress and have some ‘me’ time. As I walked towards my room, I had begun to feel the calm energies of the place. The place was gradually soothing all my senses.

I stayed in a villa which had its own private plunge pool with separate master bedroom and living room. After sunbathing near the enormous pool and spending some time in the room and having my tea, I went for a walk at the beach and spent some time there listening to the music of the waves. It was bliss to dip my legs in the beach. In the evening I had an early light dinner at the restaurant.

After sleeping like a baby, the next day I woke up to a beautiful sunrise and spent some time meditating at the rock near the ocean. The ebb and flow of the waves filled me with renewed vigour and was the perfect kickstart to my day. Then I headed to the yogashala, which is a beautiful space in the resort especially meant to do yoga, and spent an hour doing my yoga exercises. After an energizing workout, I was really hungry, so I headed straight to have my breakfast. I must say, Anantara Tangalle had various healthy breakfast options; green juices, gluten free, local Sri Lankan delicacies, name it and they had it! I had a wholesome breakfast and then I was all set for my wellness experience at the spa! When I went to the spa, I met Dr. Thampi who explained me about the wellness programme I should take. He also told me that people who come here for different programmes get a consultation done before they come in so that their programmes are ready before their check-in. In all , they have around 4 programmes – Inner harmony ayurveda programme, deep sleep ayurveda programme, Natural weight ayurveda programme, rebuilding detox ayurvedic programme.

All these programmes come under their innovative wellness programme, Balance Wellness By Anantara which is all about balance! Being a true Libran I totally abide by it. Its like my second nature. At Anantara, the doctors don’t just help you with the spas and treatments, but they also educate you about your health, they help you understand your body, your food, and they empower you to pursue wellness. The doctor chalked out a personalized package for me. He also told me about their free consultation for travellers who visit the place. After a spa that replenished me from the inside out, I headed on to their richly authentic Italian restaurant, Il Mare, a reflection of Anantara owner Bill Heinecke’s love of that cuisine. The chef and the maître ‘d are both Italian, and so are many of the imported ingredients. I also enjoyed the rice festival in which they celebrate the harvest of its first rice crops from its own organic paddy fields, located within the premises of the resort.

There were so many beautiful, quaint and picturesque corners in the resort which I explored. Every nook and corner had something refreshing. And every little thing played an important role in de-stressing me one by one. After losing myself in a tranquil world of my own at Anantara, my batteries were fully recharged. Truly, all the fun and excitement of travel makes it a natural antidote to stress. Whatever style of travel you prefer, getting away from the routine of normal life and totally immersing yourself in new places, cultures and experiences is a fantastic way to refresh your body and mind. It gets you back home feeling grateful and reminds you about the beautiful things that life has blessed us with!
